Oliver Green is a Wild One | A First Birthday Shoot in Jackson, Mississippi
Can not believe our sweet baby boy is about to be TWO! I thought it would be fun to revisit the day we took our youngest son, Oliver Green, out for the best 1st Birthday Shoot ever! I came up with the idea to do a "Where the Wild Things Are" themed party for his first birthday when he was probably just a few months old! Yes, I'm a planner through and through and sometimes I get ahead of myself! But I knew I wanted something fun, different, and something that would tie in to his middle name. It also didn't hurt that this story is a childhood favorite of mine! My grandfather would put on a play for me and my sister based on the book anytime we visited. He had a cardboard "stage" and official Wild Things puppets! Such special memories I'm delighted to be able to pass down to my children!
So when the time came to start executing my vision no detail was forgotten! The setting for the Best 1st Birthday Shoot Ever was our local "Belhaven Beach". It couldn't have turned out better! I decided to start the shoot out in a cute but simple white onesie with these adorable printed pants I picked up from a local children's boutique and the cutest green moccasins to boot! A faux coonskin hat and a real turkey feather were the perfect props, aka baby entertainment! Talk about precious! That little toothy grin and lashes for dayyyysss!
Now it was HOT that day and we had to work fast. I ordered an official "Max" costume online (added a bigger tail because the original just wasn't cutting it!) for the second part of the shoot but knew we needed to get the boat set up before we dressed him in his fur! My talented father in law made the pirogue, my trusty $5 flea market lace tablecloth made the sail, and the green tissue paper tassel garland was the perfect finishing touch! As I snapped away, Daddy, Gan, and big brother, Keller, entertained, supervised, distracted, and sweated. A lot! ;)
My vision had come to life and I was a happy girl! Of course the shoot didn't end without a few tears and some snacks! Check out some of my favorite shots below and tell me what you think!
sn't he the cutest! I think he will definitely be my little model in the years to come! I originally purchased two sizes in the Max costume to be sure we had one that fit...I may have to dress him up again and do a 2nd Birthday shoot!! This theme ended up so fitting for him. He is definitely our "wild one" especially compared to Keller. He keeps us on our toes for sure!
And here is the invitation I designed for his party! Everything is hand lettered and drawn by me with the coloring done in photoshop. I just love the way it turned out!
Thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed my first post! More great things to come on the new Amelia Catherine & Co. Blog!
